Everybody's Uncle,

Hi - I heard your show for the first time this week and enjoyed it very much. My question is this:
I have a Jeep Sport SUV with 91,600 kilometers mileage on it. Can you tell me what this transposes into in regular mileage?

Thank you,
Alison Corvi

Alison,
Thanks for listening. Your conversion question got me going. Here are some formulas provided by the Almanac
Kilometers x .621371 = miles
91,600 kilometers x .621371 = 56,917.91 miles
But to convert miles to kilometers they offer miles x 1.60934 = kilometers
To check
56,917.91 miles x 1.60934 = 91,600.27

Close enough?
Uncle Jim

Thank you Uncle Jim.
I am impressed.  You will be hearing from me again.  This has convinced me that there is no reason for me to turn my car in for a new one it still has mileage left to be used. Will you please email a schedule of all your programs

Thank you
Alison Corvi

Glad was I helpful. On every American marketed vehicle of which I am aware, there is a selector button for miles/kilometers.  Check your owner's manual.

My last Wednesday radio show will be this week at 7:30 PM (June 30). Thereafter, the show will air 10:30 - noon every Saturday.

Congratulations. I rarely get a "thank you" from those who send inquiries no matter how much time is required to answer. Appreciation is rare these days. Call in to the show. Appreciation, and its formidability, is a great topic for discussion.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Uncle Jim

I believe in showing my appreciation for any kindness extended to me.  I can't tell you how many people I have asked this question and they weren't able to give me an answer, including once calling the dealer.  I have no idea why I was sold a vehicle in kilometer rather then regular mileage and was not aware of it myself right away.
Good luck with your show.
I have been a widow for quite a few years now and miss the opportunity of discussing things or asking someone's opinion since my small family is scattered all over the country.  It's just me and my little Yorkie Nikki but we are doing fine.  I will call in with a question one of these days.
Thank you again.

Alison,

I did not post your original inquiry because I sometimes get kids asking me to do their homework. But I thought for a moment and realized that the conversion was always approximated off the top of my head but not accurately. So off to the almanac I went.

I am posting our exchange to provide the "Alison" example of appreciation.
Please call the show. I will arrange dinner for you at Portofino's Restaurant in Morristown.

Give Nikki a hug for me.

You always have me to provide you with that second opinion.

Uncle Jim
