I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED

Dear Uncle Jimmy,

It seems to me that there are a lot of young ladies out in the world today that are looking for love in all the wrong places. Girls these days hear the word "forever" and think that it's true. I know because I was there not once but twice. I know some of you are thinking she got hurt so now she is bitter, but that is so far from the truth.
I was in love with someone for a very long time, we had a baby together and as soon as it was time to get married he ran away. It took me a very long time to get over him. Then when I thought that I was ready to fall in love again, I met someone and found out that he was only after a green card. So that's it right. No more right. NO, because you can't let a man get you down. A woman can not let a man control her. There are many young ladies out there that need to feel loved. But love is not just sex. When you meet someone try to see yourself with him in 20 or 30 years.
But you also need to think about other things. Like does he support my decision about school? Does he support me in my workplace? Does my family like him? I still remember the day my mother told me that my daughter's father was not the one for me. But of course I said, "No mom, I love him and he loves me." If your mama says no then listen to her because, believe it or not, she was young once too.

OK if any of you young ladies want someone to talk to, then e-mail me at mewhite245@yahoo.com

Thank you for reading this.

Melissa,

Thank you for your honesty and your courage to "go public" with your misjudgments. May your words, your personal experience, your wisdom, touch the hearts and minds of all my nieces and nephews.

With appreciation and admiration,
Uncle Jimmy
