Emily,
I searched various sources including the state laws and I am not able to give you a definitive answer regarding legal age to do anything in Texas.
That said, I can give you some very sane advice. Teenagers in our culture are somehow under the impression that they are adults – not true. Adults (according to Uncle Jimmy) are individuals that are totally self-sustaining. They can pay all their own expenses; shelter, food, clothing, transportation, insurance and other necessities. Only then should they consider setting up a household with another self-sustaining individual.
Teenage girls also believe they are in love and can set up household with boyfriends. Emily thinks she can drop out of school because she has a one in million boyfriend that will provide love and security forever – not likely. Please find me some statistics to support your theory; I can not. Please consider this. In any social arrangement there is a contest for position. If one person has all the income he/she has a certain amount of power over the other. It takes more maturity then I have ever seen in teenager to exercise that power reasonably. If it is any comfort many adults don’t get it either.
Small things indicate big things. Emily did not even bother to use spell check but she is ready to drop out of school, leave home, and move in with her boyfriend.
Hormones are not households.
Everybody’s Uncle
