Dear Kelly,
The laws regarding minors leaving home are listed by state on line. If you search "state laws on emancipation" you will find the legal information. I doubt it will help much because it is difficult to understand and varies from state to state. I will give you the general thrust of the law as I understand it.
Emancipation is the legal separation of an underage individual from parents (or guardians) wherein the parents are no longer responsible for the child. In simple terms, you are totally on your own. You must be emancipated legally by a court if you are under 18. This requires an application to the court and a judgement that legally separates the under 18 year old from parents or guardians. Unless that emancipation is granted, parents have the right to decide where you live. Additionally, should you leave and move in with someone 18 or older, that person might be liable for your conduct. If you are legally under age, I see no reason why such individuals could not be regarded as aiding a minor perhaps in very questionable conduct that violates the law.
I am not an attorney, nor should this opinion be taken as advice. Please research the law in your state, and get legal counsel before taking any action.
Please read all the "Moving out" answers posted in the Home/School or Personal section. Unless you are being physically or sexually abused, you might be experiencing a very normal teenage desire to get out from under the rules of your household. In case of abuse, contact school, clergy or legal authorities.
Most inquiries of this type translate into, "I want to move in with my boyfriend." Don't do it. Don't do it. DON'T DO IT!
