AM I ALLOWED TO MOVE OUT AT 15

Everybody's Uncle, [Unedited]

Well you see I'm going to be turning 16 in like 2 weeks and I really can't stand my family and the place I live in, and I really want to get impancipated..I think that is how you spell it. But I'm not sure how I can do that? I mean I have a job and I plan on getting another job and quiting that job. But I have no clue how to start figuring all this stuff out and everything, that's where I need your help?! And I was also wondering how old do you have to be to leave your house and live wherever you want in Oregon? My mother is telling me that I cant move out when I'm 18 and I'm out of school, but other people I've talked to are telling me I can move out when I'm 18 and I don't have to finish school and live in my house, but I want to move out. And I will finish school also. PLEASE HELP ME!
Love Always, Kayla

Dear Kayla,

Uncle Jim is perfectly willing to help you. The question is do you really want help or approval? Please read, "Am I allowed to move out at 17?" You are 15 and you want to know if you can move out. The short answer to your question is - no.
I almost didn't open this E because of the screen name to which it was attached. When a girl refers to herself in such a demeaning way, alarms should go off with the caring adults around her. Uncle Jim's did.

I don't know where to start. Let's make a deal. You change that screen name and I will consider that a step in a positive direction. I will give you a choice. Write back and include your old or new screen name in your E. I will post whichever one you send. I want to cry for you. I don't know if your parents have failed you or you are a 15-year-old parent's nightmare. You tell me - but no fibbing.

You have a clean slate here. True, I am on the other side of the country and I am one tough Uncle (read my responses) but I will help - or at least I will try.

All the legal and practical information is in the posts below. If that is all you want, I wish you well. If you are reaching out for someone to care about you - I care.

I care, I care, I care.
Everybody's Uncle
